The Electricity Crisis in Libya and the Role of Renewable Energy in 2018
A Summary of Discussion Panel
Over the past few years, the Power Grid in Libya has suffered difficult conditions, which resulted in severe materialistic damage to power generation units, transmission networks and distribution subsystems. In addition, many projects came to a halt as a result of the departure of foreign contracting companies, due to security incidents and armed clashes within the area. This has placed the electrical power grid in a difficult and critical situation leading to a large deficit in meeting the demand for electricity use, and thus resorting to power cuts for long periods of time.
In this regard, the Libyan Organization of Policies & Strategies (LOOPS) held a discussion Panel on Monday, 7 May 2018 at the headquarters of the Organization in Tripoli, on the topic of “Expected Electricity crisis during the coming summer & the role of renewable energy “. The discussion brought together experts, academics and owners of private companies in the field of renewable energy.
